Sankalpa is a brand many know for their beautiful yoga mats designed by artists from around the world. Today, May 12th, they are launching their Kickstarter campaign for leggings. With sixty different designs all created by amazing artists, these leggings are absolutely unbelievable. Just like Sankalpa mats these leggings are as unique, creative, and inspiring as the artists who designed them, and the yogis who will wear them.
I love supporting artists and small independent businesses; I’m inspired when people make their dreams into their careers! It’s rewarding to find these companies, get to know the creatives behind the brands, learn how they got to where they are on their path.
Sankalpa set itself apart by generating revenue streams that directly support independent artists and yoga teachers with their mats, and now with their leggings. They’re not just licensing stock images to print on products; each mat is designed by a different independent artist to represent a yoga teacher. Every product sold directly supports the artist who created the design and the yogi it represents.
How cool is that! I didn’t realize that the designs were inspired by a teacher, and as a teacher myself I love this concept. It’s wonderful the way the art and yoga communities have come together to support one another.
Now that they’re taking it a step further and printing these designs on leggings, we can wear the art! And I’m all about that! I love supporting companies that bring their dreams to life while supporting others. Check out the Kickstarter for their leggings here: www.livesankalpa.com/kic
In addition to being beautiful pieces of art, these leggings are high-quality work out wear. Designed for vigorous exercise, the breathable fabric dries quickly and is super comfy. The designs are equally at home in the studio, the gym, the great outdoors, or a night out on the town. They’re made using a sublimation printing process, and are cut and sewn in Southern California, so you’ll be supporting an American business.
I picked out a beautiful pair of leggings called Feather Tribe. The design was created by Juliana Lavell from British Columbia, CA. A little research revealed that she is also a yoga teacher and entrepreneur who leads yoga retreats and teaches aerial yoga. I love that I now I can wear a piece of her art!
The feather design definitely struck me, as I’ve always loved feathers. The website description reads;
The spirit of this feather ignites soul magic. It aims to connect you with a feeling that you are free in the truest, rawest expression of yourself. Through this divine connection with self creates a vibration to serendipitously meet like minded souls you can call your feather tribe.
This speaks very much to Juliana’s artist statement on the website that reminds us that we are all connected and part of a tribe of people called to create and do.
I encourage you to go support the Kickstarter and not only give these artists the recognition they deserve but support a community of creators. We all create in different ways, and I love being able to help the community thrive by continuing to lift up anyone that is willing to take a leap of faith into their dream. I think that is part of the inspiration for Josh Nickell, CEO and founder of Sankalpa, and all they do there. Helping to elevate others who are chasing their dreams, working on their passion projects, and taking risks is a noble and never-ending effort. Big thanks to Josh and the Sankalpa team for recognizing this as an opportunity to co-create and for giving me early access to test the leggings and write about this campaign!
